Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1

The X1 began shipping on the 30th of September, and was meant to become available in the United Kingdom, Germany, and Sweden. It became available to the UK market on October 27 (only on Vodafone) but it is not clear when it will be released to the rest of the EU. The handset is available through the Carphone Warehouse and Phones4Uin the UK. In Europe it will be sold only in Fnac stores (Belgium and France).
In South Africa, it will be released to the public on December 16, 2008.
The North American release date was expected to be announced on November 3rd, 2008; however, it was not.
On November 13, Sony Ericsson announced that the phone would be available in North America on November 28, 2008 for $799 unlocked.
The X1a was released on Telstra in December 2008 and went on sale December 26th, 2008. The X1i is expected to be released onto other providers as they use the 900 and 2100MHz band of the X1i rather than the 850MHz of the X1a which Telstra use.
Being a Windows Mobile device enables multiple levels of customisation for the Sony X1. Common changes experienced users make are:
-Enabling the Google panel to work with the installed opera browser as opposed to Pocket Internet Explorer. (By simply modifying the default.xml file)
-Installing the Touch HD Radio application with scrolling RDS and background operation possibility.
-Maxing out file system and display caches for optimised operation. (using Xperia tweak 2.0).
-Enabling speedup of SD Card read speeds by 160% using SD Tuneup.
-Updating Google maps online to include directions, traffic and streetview.
-Installing a dedicated high resolution youtube app.
-Installing the Touch HD Keyboard for X1, which is a vast improvement over the standard WM6.1 screen keyboard, and enables accurate one finger typing.
